Volunteer: Urgent Need! Preparing and Serving a Meal for a Large Group

Do you like to cook for a crowd? Have we got the opportunity for you!  Day by Day Shelter relies on meal teams to provide dinner 7 nights per week, 365 days per year.

Your team of 5-7 people would prepare a meal  for around 55 guests, bring it in hot and ready to go (arrive at 5:30pm), serve the meal (begins at 6pm), wash any dishes, and clean up the kitchen afterwards (you're done by 7:15pm-ish).  We have a warming kitchen with an oven, warming rack, and steam table for serving here at the shelter. We do have an industrial dishwasher and reusable trays, cups, mugs, silverware, etc. Some teams prefer to bring in disposable items to save time and skip the dishes.

*Volunteers under age 18 may assist with meal but must be with and near a guardian at all times.*

Volunteer: Hope Garden Project

Hope Garden Project

Christine Ann would like to redesign the garden on the front lawn of the building into our Hope Garden. This garden will be planted in memory of those who have lost their lives to domestic violence, and to “plant the seeds” of hope to those affected by domestic violence. We would like to begin planting within the next month, and will continue to plant throughout the year, depending on when the different plants will thrive best to be planted. We will then need volunteers to come in routinely to maintain the garden.

Requirements:

Must be able to kneel/squat for extended periods of time

Must be able to work with hands

Must be able to work in the sun for extended periods of time

Have basic knowledge of how to care for plants successfully

We are very passionate about this garden not only to honor the lives lost to DV, but also to honor and foster hope for survivors of DV. This project would not be able to come to fruition without the time, hard work, and support of our volunteers.
