What is Adaptive Swim: Adaptive swim is a 10-week program that allows for people with physical and/or mental special needs to enjoy an hour of open swim at the Oshkosh YMCA's downtown branch, while the aquatics department is closed to other patrons. Requirements for volunteers: 18+, confutable in water, can swim at lease 25ft without assistance. Time: Adaptive Swim takes place on Monday evening from 6:30pm-7:30pm Dates: February 9th, 16th, 23rd March 2nd,9th, 30th April 6th, 13th, 20th, 27th If ten weeks is too much to commit to, we would still love for you to help out either just once or by select a month that works best for you. Volunteers provide us with their unique talents, skills, and time, that in turn plays a crucial role in serving our clients. We are committed to the recruitment, training, and support of volunteers to help us reach our goal of ending the cycle of domestic violence. Our facility in which we provide services to clients plays an important role in the support we are able to offer them. Maintaining a clean, well-organized space provides a welcoming and comforting environment for them when they may need it most. Due to our staff's time commitment to provide support services to our clients, we need assistance from volunteers to keep our facility clean and well organized. Duties may include things such as: Sweeping/mopping/vacuuming floors Dusting Wiping down/sanitizing surfaces Cleaning windows Cleaning bathrooms Sorting and putting away donations Organizing and stocking shelter “grab and go” areas Picking up/cleaning play areas Cleaning vacant shelter rooms Assisting moving furniture items Other unique needs that may arise Requirements: Must be able to lift 25 lbs. This spring, we will begin to plant the garden. We will plant throughout the year, depending on when the different plants will thrive best to be planted. We will then need volunteers to come in routinely to maintain the garden. Requirements: Must be able to kneel/squat for extended periods of time Must be able to work with hands Must be able to work in the sun for extended periods of time Have basic knowledge of how to care for plants successfully We are very passionate about this garden not only to honor the lives lost to DV, but also to honor and foster hope for survivors of DV. This project would not be able to come to fruition without the time, hard work, and support of our volunteers. Volunteers will be provided with appropriate tools but may need to supply their own work/gardening gloves. Landscaping projects may require a stricter schedule, however, volunteers signing up for weekly/biweekly projects may have a more flexible schedule. Volunteers shall be 18 or older unless under supervision of an adult approved by the Oshkosh Parks staff.
