"In my experience, there's no such thing as luck."
– Obi-Wan Kenobi
Volunteering isn’t about luck—it’s about people coming together to create real change. When you give your time, you’re not just helping others—you’re making meaningful connections and strengthening the community we all call home. For 28 years, Oshkosh Area United Way’s Day of Caring has been a morning of action, bringing volunteers together to support local nonprofits, schools, and community organizations. This year, we invite you to be part of this inspiring tradition of service.
On Wednesday, May 21, we invite employees and community members to spend the morning volunteering at nonprofits and service organizations that strengthen our community. Whether you’re a longtime volunteer or looking for a way to give back for the first time, this is your opportunity to make a difference.
Examples of past Day of Caring volunteer projects include, but are not limited to:
- Basic gardening, landscaping, yard or grounds cleanup
- Cleaning and organizing
- Paint prep and painting
- Assisting seniors with various tasks like moving furniture to vacuum, cleaning ceiling fans and light fixtures, etc.
- Assembling shelves and other furniture
- Writing thank-you notes or creating handmade birthday and appreciation cards
- Professional skilled-based contributions such as reviewing handbooks or policies, guidance on budget creation or financial forecasting, data entry, and IT or legal assistance.

Your day begins at Boys and Girls Club of Oshkosh – Radford Gym (Door 3) at 8 AM with a complimentary breakfast and a brief program before you head out to your assigned project sites from 9 AM to Noon. Verve, a Credit Union, will provide water and snacks throughout the morning. Volunteers will receive a free United Way T-shirt as a thank-you for their service.
