The Guest Check-Out Volunteer is essential to the smooth operation of our food pantry, ensuring guests have a positive and efficient experience as they complete their shopping. This role involves weighing carts, recording weights in the computer system, enforcing product limits, and assisting guests as needed. The ideal candidate should be comfortable interacting with individuals from diverse backgrounds, including non-English speaking guests, and possess the physical ability to manage full shopping carts.
Key Responsibilities:
- Guest Check-Out: Efficiently check out guests who have finished shopping.
- Weighing Carts: Place shopping carts on the scale and accurately record the weight in our computer system.
- Enforce Product Limits: Explain and enforce product limits to guests to ensure fair distribution of resources.
- Customer Interaction: Deal respectfully and effectively with people from diverse backgrounds and identities, including Non-English Speakers.
- Troubleshooting: Patiently and effectively troubleshoot any system errors between check-out and registration with assistance from staff.
- Maintaining Cleanliness: Keep the check-out area clean and tidy, ensuring ample bags and boxes are available for guest use.
- Bagging Assistance: Assist guests with bagging their items if needed.
- Physical Tasks: Stand, lift, push, and pull full shopping carts as required.
Qualifications:
- Ability to perform simple calculations and data entry.
- Strong physical ability to manage full shopping carts (lifting, pushing, pulling).
- Good communication skills and ability to interact with people from diverse backgrounds.
- Patience and a positive attitude, especially when dealing with non-English speaking guests and/or enforcing product limits.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in recording weights and enforcing limits.
- Ability to troubleshoot system errors with staff assistance.
- Commitment to maintaining a clean and organized check-out area.
